2021 Key Note Speaker: Lani Elliott
Lani Elliott grew up in foster care in the small town of Abernethy, Saskatchewan. As a child, she dreamed of working in law enforcement, and at the age of 19, joined the RCMP as a special constable, hoping to one day become a regular member of the police force. Unfortunately, Lani’s dreams were shattered when her marriage ended in an unspeakable act of violence that left her with broken legs, homeless, and with two small children to raise on her own. Although starting over was not easy, Lani managed to rebuild her life for the sake of her sons with the help of various shelters and organizations. Today, Lani is an accomplished motivational speaker and travels all over North America, sharing her message of hope and inspiring positive change in those who may be struggling with the many issues related to domestic violence and sexual violence, including self-worth, and positive mental health. Lani’s own, personal story and poetry have been featured in Maclean’s Magazine, and has also been featured in three separate documentaries, including “The War at Home” by award winning film maker, Shelley Saywell.
